Collette at Two {And a Half}

I just can't believe my little girl is two and a half!!! It's still crazy how quickly she changes-- I was reading my posts about what she was doing at 2 and at 2 and a quarter, and already so many of those phrases and quirks are gone! So here is a little snapshot of Collette at two and a half.

~The girl is Gregarious with a capital G.  I mean she really, really, really knows no strangers at all.  She runs up to each and every new kid with a big wave and says hello and wants to play.  And just assumes that they will want to play with her.  Even though it may 8 and 10 year old boys, or teenage girls. Ha! She is the same way with adults. I am trying to teach her to be a little bit more reserved-- she will hold hands, sit in laps, or be picked up by almost any one.

~She is now mostly potty trained.  We use pull-ups for nap time and bed time.  She doesn't always need them, but her Mama doesn't want to deal with waking up to feed a baby and waking up to change sheets. :)

~She has definite opinions about her wardrobe and wants to pick out her own clothes every day. Sometimes she even matches. :) She loves to dress up, and "tinker skirts" are still her favorite.  She puts on a skirt or dress and will twirl and sing "I'm so happy!" over and over.  It's precious.  She has also started liking to dress up in her new princess outfit, and will often wrap a blanket or towel around herself (so that it makes a long "dress") and say "Look, I'm a princess!"

~She doesn't really have a favorite toy or activity.  She really likes to play with her new Lego Duplo blocks Mimi brought, she likes playing with her toy food and kitchen and having tea parties and pizza parties, she enjoys her alphabet blocks and loves coloring on her chalkboard in her room.  She enjoys coloring, painting, and play doh.  She continues to love Minnie Mouse and how has "Big Minnie" (her stuffed plush Minnie) and "Little Minnie" (her plastic Minnie with snap-on outfits).

(Making a family of snakes, of course!)

~She likes books and sits still for longer stories now.  She always looks forward to "story time" before nap time and bed time (although we read at other times, too).  She really loves her "Llama, Llama" books (we have 4 of them) and likes to say some of the lines.  Her current favorite line to repeat is "Baby Llama jumps and shouts!" from "Llama, Llama, Red Pajama." Other favorite books include Children Make Terrible Pets, The Silly Shark, Good Night, Moon, any of her Sesame Street books, and of course her beloved Mickey Mouse Search and Find book.

~She is a big, solid, little girl! She is in 3T clothes and a size 7 shoe. Between her size and her long hair, people on constantly assuming she is at least 3. She continues to be a good eater.  She loves all fruit, and the first thing she asks for in the morning is an orange or an apple. She also loves yogurt and is a good vegetable eater.  Of course, she also is fond of goldfish crackers, cookies, and ice cream.  Oh, and coffee.  Every morning she says "I need a sip of Daddy's coffee. I like coffee."

(Hugging her chocolate bunny from Easter. Ha!)

~She is FINALLY getting at least one of her missing teeth! You know, the ones she was supposed to get at least year and a half ago? One is now just starting to poke through.  Hopefully the other one will be following!

~She has such an active imagination and it is so fun seeing how she thinks.  She still has imaginary pet snakes and sometimes imaginary chickens.  She loves to go to the playground and pretend to be a store vendor in the little playhouse with a pass-through window. Almost daily she pretends to be a bunny (with lots of hopping), a kitty cat (with meowing and rubbing her cheek on things), a frog (four-legged hopping and ribbit-ing), and of course a "nake" (crawling and hissing).

~She loves to talk and chatters all of the time.  She still has trouble with consonant blend words, particularly if they start with an "s" sound, so the "s" sound gets dropped entirely.  Since I know that, I don't have any problem understanding her, but it does cause some puzzled looks from other people.  :)

~She has started to be an early bird.  Hopefully, this will pass soon! She usually goes to bed about 8:30, and has been getting up at about 5:45.  The past few days we've tried sending her back to bed to sleep until at least 6:30.  This morning, after a few tears, it worked. She still takes a good afternoon nap, usually around 2-2.5 hours.  Some days she will even ask to go to bed.  When my mom was here visiting, we went out for lunch.  In the car on the way home, Collette said "I need to go to sleep.  I'm really pretty tired." Music to my ears! Ha!

Every year at the beginning of May, our Azalea blooms, and so I've taken Collette's "half birthday" pictures there.  :)
