Flooding

As many of you know, it has been raining here in Central PA since Monday.  At our house, it has been pretty much raining non-stop since Monday.  Every time I looked out the window, this is what I saw:

By 11am yesterday, we had almost 2 feet of water in our basement.  LL called and said work was closing and he was coming home, then called back 10 minutes later and said all of the main roads were already closed; he wouldn't be able to get home after all. I was worried about him (not to mention disappointed!) and began to wonder how he was going to make it home at all if the roads were already closed.  Well, my resourceful husband took matters into his own hands and walked with a couple of coworkers part way, past the flooded roads, and then got a ride from there.  Here are a few of the pictures he took while walking yesterday.

The entire area is flooding; the weather forcasters are sayig this is the worst flood since Hurricane Agnes in 1972. We spent the majority of last night night trying to sump-pump out our basement. .Even though we have a drain in our basement and a sump pump, all we were able to accomplish is keeping the water from rising.  The water was up past the second stair at its highest, but by then it was evening and we didn't get any pictures.  Here are the steps to our basement:

Our biggest concern is our freezers. We have two big (and level-full of food!) deep freezers in our basement, and LL and his dad and brother kept jacking them up higher and higher on blocks of wood, but the water just kept coming. They are currently unplugged and we will just have to wait and see if we lose the freezers and all of their contents. 

This is a picture of our smaller deep freezer; if you look closely you can see the multiple blocks of wood its proped up on. You can also see floating piles of junk. :) Our basement is scarey on a good day.

While it would be a shame to lose our freezers and all of that food, our furnace on the other side of the basement is fine, and so many people have it soooo much worse than us.  Towns are being evacuated all around us; the National Guard and State Police are everywhere.

 These are pictures of Sunbury; you can see how high the river is getting on the wall.  Praying it doesn't get over the wall! Evacuations of this area is begining now.

Here,the Susquehanna River is currently at 31 feet and rising.  The flood level for the river here is 24 feet! The river is expected to crest tomorrow at a predicted crested at 34.4 feet.  Please be in prayer for the people of Central PA! Also pray that the walls and levees hold! It has currently stopped raining here (after receiving about 9 inches in the past 3 days), so hopefully things will be improving soon.
