~ When he turned two, he still wasn't talking a lot. He would say words and short sentences, but didn't talk much overall. Well, somewhere in the month after he turned two, it's like he decided he was just going to use all of those words he had been hearing but not using. It's like he woke up one morning and decided he was going to talk! He now can pretty much say anything he wants to, and I'm still surprised at some of the words he uses that I didn't know he knew. I am awful about taking videos, but here is a short video I took of him the other day, just so you can hear him talking a bit.
~ One of the phrases I hear from him the most often is "Hey, Mommy! Watch this!" usually followed by some sort of demonstration of physical skill (hanging off something, jumping, running, etc.) or throwing a ball. He is such a little boy, and it's fun to see him grow. Another oft-repeated phrase is "What's that noise?" He is very attuned to sounds, and will be the first one to hear a phone beep, or any other out-of-the-ordinary noise.
(Sleeping with his new big red ball, he was over-the-moon excited about it and didn't want to let it go).
~He loves basketball right now. Maybe it's because he saw his big cousins playing Upward this winter, but every time he sees a gym he asks "I go play basketball?" In nursery the other week, he found a small basketball, and the nursery workers said he played with it the entire hour he was in there. :)
~ He still often uses "my" instead of "I'm" in sentences. He will say "My cold!" after we've been outside playing, or "My hungry! We eat lunch now?" (Always hungry, that boy.) It's very cute. He does use "I" appropriately at times, like when he says "I don't know," or "I'll get it!"
~ He has done great sleeping in his big-boy bed, and usually doesn't need to be told to stay in bed. When he gets up, his is generally quiet- a skill his sister still hasn't mastered! He will walk quietly through her room and come into our bedroom, whispering, "I get up in the bed with Daddy? I need some covers!" He almost never goes back to sleep, but will snuggle in bed with us sometimes. The time he wakes up varies greatly-- sometimes as early as 5:30am, and sometimes as late as 8am!
~ His favorite books right now are "Digger Power" (about a front-loader), "My First Farm Book," Thomas the Train books, and Sesame Street books.
~ He loves to go down into the basement with Daddy and check the furnace. It is the most exciting part of his day. :) He can put on his beloved snow boots all by himself, and as soon as LL says he is going to the basement, Trey will be right there, putting his boots on and saying "I go down to the basement! I help Daddy in the basement!"
(Building a gun from his blocks. Again. Ha!)
~ He is obsessed with ladybugs. For some reason, we have had many of them in our house this winter, and Trey has unparalleled excitement for each and every one found. He will exclaim excitedly, "I found a ladybug!!" and proceed to get as close as possible to it, which often entails lying on the floor. He will watch it, try to catch it, and exclaim over and over "Look! It's walking!"
(Disclaimer: Yes, he is still wearing Christmas pajamas in March. It is still super cold here and the warmest jammies he has are Christmas-themed, so you will see lots of Christmas-jammie pictures. Ha!)
~ Collette is his best buddy and his partner in crime. More and more, he is holding his own and not just letting Collette decide what they are going to play or what he can play with.
~ We have had several play dates at the playland in McDonald's, and Trey has become very adept at pointing out every McDonald's we see. Almost every day he asks if we can go to McDonald's and play on the slides. Even though he is almost too small to get up and down by himself, Collette always helps him climb up so he can play with the bigger kids. :)
(Fun lunch date at McDonald's with our little friend Erin)
~ He thinks it's so funny to try on other people's shoes and wear them all around the house. Collette's pink sparkly shoes were especially fun.
~ He loves the vacuum. In fact, we got him a toy vacuum for Christmas because he loves it so much. He tries to help me every time I vacuum, and sometimes will bring his own vacuum downstairs to "help" me. This week he decided "bumper vacuums" was a more fun game than just pretending to clean.
~He likes to paint and color, and will sit still for quite a long period of time doing artsy stuff. He still uses both his left and right hands, so the jury is still out on his hand dominance. He knows most of his colors and likes to count and arrange his crayons while he is coloring.
~ For all of his rambunctious boy-ness, he is still very sweet and a snuggler. He likes to give kisses and tell us he loves us, and likes to sit and cuddle.
(Showing off his make-shift backpack. Silly boy!)
~ He is such a joy to us, and it so fun to see him grow! I think he is going to be a great big brother, and I can't even imagine the mischief he and his little brother will get into! :)
