Pumpkin Carving, Old School Style

For the past several years, we have had all of the cousins come to our house and we have carved pumpkins together. We have picked fun, elaborate designs and templates and done our best to carve Lightning McQueen, Hello Kitty, and whoever else the kids pick. It has been lots of fun, but generally what happens is the kids get bored because they aren't helping, and go run around and play together, and the adults all get carpal tunnel carving intricate designs on tiny pumpkins.

This year, we couldn't coordinate our schedules to get the cousins together, and LL and I decided that it was time to go back to the Old School ways of pumpkin carving-- the bigger kids sat down with paper and drew faces, and we let them pick a shape for their eyes, nose, and how many teeth they wanted. Then we decided together on what Elliott's pumpkin should look like.  It was fast, easy, and fun!

I have nothing against the fancy pumpkin carving, but this was a great change of pace. :)

Let the carving begin!

The finished masterpieces! Collette's has the triangle eyes, Trey's has the round eyes, and Elliott's has the square.  The kids decided Elliott's pumpkin should have teeth just like him-- 4 on the top, 2 on the bottom. Ha!

So, Elliott was clearly over the whole pumpkin carving thing by this point... I think it was bedtime.  But the big kids are very proud of their finished products!
