On December 9th, Lloyd Vaughn III turned 3. Three. Time is going so much faster than I'd like to admit. But the past three years with this boy of mine have been a joy. And especially this year. We have gotten to see so much more clearly who he is as a person.
He is a comedian.
He is funny, and he knows it. He has a million facial expressions, and knows just how to use them. It sometimes it takes all I have to correct his behavior without bursting out in laughter. And sometimes I do just laugh.
January
He is mischievous.
He will get a wicked glint in his eye and you can just see his is up to no good! Ha!
And sure enough, the next thing you know, he is streaking by with one of Collette's possessions, laughing uproariously.
February
He is a snuggler.
He loves to get in a lap and curl up with us, and- yes- suck his thumb.
Oh, that thumb. Will he ever be done with it?
March
He is adventurous.
He is always saying "Mommy, watch this!" and doing some sort of crazy stunt. (I read somewhere that a toddler saying "Mommy, watch this!" is the equivalent of a frat boy saying "Here, hold my beer." I think that's pretty accurate. Ha!)
He has given me plenty of heart-stopping moments, and his first set of stitches this year.
April
He is observant.
He is always, always watching things and trying to figure things out.
Especially mechanical things.
I never needed to hide keys from Collette, but I'm quite sure that if I left a key within Trey's reach, he would attempt to start the car, the lawn mower, or Pap's Mule.
May
He is, as he likes to say, "a tractor kid."
He knows all about different kinds of tractors and farm machinery, and will tell you all about it.
He loves to ride on the Chopper, Combine, or tractors with Daddy, Uncle Andy, or Pap. It is a bit of a challenge to have him on the equipment, because he doesn't just sit passively in the passenger's seat. He wants to drive, to push buttons, to make it work! He was in heaven when Uncle Andy let him be the one to push the button to release the round bales.
June
He is in constant motion.
When I have the kids out places, they will always look at Trey and say "Wow. You sure have your hands full. He's busy." Yes, yes he is.
He is pretty much always running, jumping, throwing something (usually a ball or something that can be thrown), or "driving" his trucks and tractors around on the floor.
I want to say all little boys are this way, and then I go places and see some little boys sitting quietly in their parents' laps, or placidly coloring. Nope, not my kid. :)
July
He loves "diggers." Trey loves all construction vehicles, and is very adept at pointing them out whenever we see them. He can tell you all about excavators and skid loaders and bulldozers, and is amassing quite the collection of toy diggers at home.
August
He loves the TV show Paw Patrol, and asks multiple times a day to watch it. He got a few Paw Patrol gifts for his birthday, and has been in heaven reading his Paw Patrol book, wearing his shirt, and playing with his new Paw Patrol pups. Paw Patrol is pretty much the only time Trey does sit still.
September
He and "Collettie," as he often calls her, are best friends.
They play together all of the time, and it has been fun to see them play more as "peers" now that Trey is older. Some of their favorite things to do together are to build forts in their bedrooms or in the living room (involving lots of pillows and blankets, and toys and books, and pretty much anything else they can find and drag into their fort), building with blocks or gears, and playing "restaurant" with their toy kitchen and food. Trey is also a pretty good sport about playing "house" with Collette, and will take turns being the baby or the parent.
October
He loves being a big brother, and is so kind to Elliott.
Trey will share his toys with Elliott, and gets so excited when Elliott will hold on to whatever Trey gives him and "play" with it. He loves to make him smile, and is great at getting Elliott to giggle. I can't wait to see what kinds of trouble those two will get into when Elliott is big enough. It will be fun to see their brother relationship develop.
November
His three year old stats:
At his annual check up, he weighed 35 pounds and was 38.5 inches tall, which is around the 88% for weight and height.
He is in 3t and 4t clothes, and in size 9 shoes. He is (mostly) potty trained, and is preferred outfit around our house is nothing but his "big kid underwear." :)
December
