Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine

On Sunday, we were able to do a fun excursion with the Bucknell Alumni.  We toured the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine, and took a train ride.  It was a beautiful day and we had such a fun time together!

While we were waiting to take our ride in the mine, Collette and Trey had some fun with the displays.

Finally it was time to go in the coal mine! We rode a small open train in the tunnel, and then were able to get out and walk around the mine, with a guide telling us about the mining process.

It was cold in the tunnel!

After our mine tour, we took a train ride of the area around the mine.

Here comes the train!

Our engineer stopped the train to give us a little history of the surrounding towns, including Centrailia, the town that has had a fire burning in the coal mines underneath it since 1962.

Riding the train!
