Gender Reveal! Baby Reitz #3 is a.....

Last Tuesday, I had my 20 week ultrasound.  We are so thankful to say that everything looks great with baby! :)  And our little one even cooperated on determining gender! Baby was very active (imagine that!) so we didn't get any great ultrasound pictures, but there is our sweet baby!

On Sunday, we did a Gender Reveal party for our families.  My brother was here for a long weekend, visiting from S.C. (complete with a broken wrist that he just had surgery on, poor guy), so we decided that since he doesn't get to be involved in too many of our family functions, we would do the party then.  Since LL and I knew the gender ahead of time, I made the cake. I waited until after the kids were in bed, because you know Collette would totally spill the beans about Mommy making a pink or blue cake!  It's not Pinterest-worthy, but it did the job. :)

And we made some pink and blue punch.

Once all of our family arrived, we cut the cake.  I thought it would be fun for our immediate family to wear pink and blue, but my Little Princess, who wears pink almost every day of her life, got up from her nap and decided she did NOT want to wear pink, thankyouverymuch.  And Trey was awakened too early from his nap and was a total clingy grump, so there was no way I was even going to attempt to mess with him. :)

So, LL and I represented for Team Pink and Team Blue. :)  I'm sad we didn't get a family picture, but it is always chaos with all of the cousins running around, and they weren't at all interested in participating in picture time.

I was pretty convinced that this baby would be a girl.  Probably because Collette has been talking about a baby sister, and making Trey call her baby doll "baby sister" all the time. And because our nursery is painted for a boy. So it would stand to reason that we'd have to repaint. :)

The big moment-- cutting the cake!

Anticipation....

IT'S A BOY!!!!!
(You can see that cousin Isaac is thrilled. Although there are actually more boys than girls in the Reitz family, three-- soon to be 4-- of the boys live in MI, so there aren't as many boys around, and he tends to feel outnumbered. In case you are wondering, this new crop of babies--one due in June, ours in July, and one in August-- will bring the total number of Reitz grandchildren up to 14.  All age 7 and under. Move over, Duggars! )

I attempted to make the white layers polka dotted with blue (by baking some blue cake pops and putting the half-baked cake pops in the white batter.). It didn't turn out exactly like I thought, but it mostly worked. :)

I was initially pretty worried about how Collette would react to another brother.  For the past 20 weeks (and really, long before she knew I was pregnant) she has been all about having a baby girl.  I had been prepping both kids for a while, saying that God already knew if this baby was a boy or a girl, and He would design our family in the perfect way.  So we would be happy either way.  Right kids? :)  To which Collette responded, "You see Trey?  That means you need to be happy when we have a baby sister." Ha! Not exactly what I meant!

In any event, Collette handled the blue reveal like a champ.  She didn't pout, fuss, cry, or really have any negative reaction at all.  She just calmly accepted that this baby is a boy.  Honestly, considering the amount of drama we have over much smaller issues, I was shocked! Ha! Today she said to me, as she was hugging my belly, "Mommy, I'm a little sad that baby isn't a girl, but not too sad."

We are thrilled to be adding another little guy to our family.  Although we would have loved a girl, and been happy either way, it will be fun to have same-gender siblings close in age. And I may even buy a matching outfit or two. :)
