NY Weekend

This past weekend LL, Collette, and I went to NY to visit with my good friend Dawn.  She and I grew up together, and she is really my only friend who still lives near my "hometown" (I always feel strange saying "hometown" because we moved so much, but I lived there for the longest so that's generally what I refer to as my hometown.  Anyway...).  We had a great visit, despite the rain and cold weather! It was cold enough that we actually broke out winter jackets! Not our heaviest winter jackets, but still! Rainy and temps in the 40s with wind...brrrrrr! The school where Dawn and I went to elementary school was having their annual Fall Festival, so we met there for lunch and to look at their silent auction stuff.  Dawn got some good deals (totally not surprising, if you know her--she is a great bargain shopper!)

In the afternoon we hung out at her place, and in the evening headed back to the school for their chicken BBQ dinner and the live auction.  Dawn and Paul have an adorable little girl Maddie, who is a little over a year old, and of course we had Collette with us, so you can imagine just how long we lasted at the live auction sitting quietly with a one year old and an almost-two-year-old! LOL! We decided to head back to their place for the evening and let the girls play instead. :)

Getting a good picture of the girls just wasn't happening by the end of the night...neither had napped really well, and were just not simultaneously in the mood for pictures. 

First Maddie would cheese it up, and Collette was too busy playing with a toy cell phone to even look at the camera....

Then Collette decided to be a ham and Maddie was looking the other way....

Then they had to take a break for some milk...

And then Collette was looking for her shirt pocket to put the toy cell phone in (just like Daddy does) and discovered she didn't have one, so she decided this was the next best option:

Too funny!

The next morning we went to church together.  This is the church that my dad pastored before they moved, so it was great to catch up with so many people I knew.  After church we went to Dawn's parents for a fabulous lunch! So fun to see them! And even though it was again approaching nap time, we decided to try for a picture.  The girls were playing on the stairs and we were able to get one half-decent picture of them together:

So we thought maybe we could get a group shot of the four of us....

Or...maybe not.  You can't really see Maddie's face in the picture, but both girls started crying and protesting when we tried to hold them on our laps. It was instantaneous.  From smiling and giggling to crying and wailing! Who knows what goes on in the mind of a toddler?

In the end, we opted for a pic of just us. :)

It was so fun to see them and to catch up.  Hopefully we will be able to do it again soon!
